Caribbean cruise ports
There are more than a dozen interesting Caribbean cruise ports that are worth visiting while on a Caribbean cruise. There are different ports of call in different Caribbean locations including those in Bermuda, the Bahamas, Eastern Caribbean, Western Caribbean and Southern Caribbean. Here is a brief look at them.
Bermuda
Kings Wharf, St. George Town and City of Hamilton are the three main Caribbean cruise ports in Bermuda. Kings Wharf was at one time used by the British Navy and lies at the western parts of Bermuda. So, it is not surprising to learn that this port is equipped to hold huge sized ships. St. George Town lies on the eastern parts of Bermuda and is located fifteen miles from the City of Hamilton. Because of windy conditions, it is often necessary for cruise ships to dock at Hamilton and not here. However, St. George does have a pair of berths: Ordnance Island and Penno’s Wharf.
Bahamas
Nassau, New Providence Island, Freeport, Grand Bahamas and Paradise Island are the main Caribbean cruise ports in the Bahamas. Nassau, New Providence cannot boast of having the main hotels in the Bahamas but is nevertheless the heart and soul of the Bahamas and so is a port that is worth visiting. Paradise Island is a port that is mostly frequented by the rich and wealthy and has some very impressive hotels. Freeport, Grand Bahamas offers the beach lover some very exciting opportunities including a chance to enjoy Gold Rock Beach and there is Lucayan National Park that is another attraction in this part of the Caribbean.
Eastern Caribbean
San Juan in Puerto Rico, Basseterre in St. Kitts, Charleston, Charlotte Amalie, Christiansted and Frederiksted in US Virgin Islands, Cruz Bay and Tortola as well as Virgin Gorda, Philipsburg (St. Maarten), Gustavia and St. John’s Antigua are some of the best Caribbean cruise ports in the Eastern Caribbean region.
St. Maarten is a very popular destination for those taking Caribbean cruises and rightly so. It is the best place to enjoy the culture of two different nations. St. John’s Antigua is another popular cruise destination and owes its popularity to the fact that it has 365 different beaches that offer much to those who love beaches.
Western Caribbean
Cancun and Cozumel in Mexico, La Romana in Dominician Republic, George Town in Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay in Jamaica are the main Caribbean cruise ports. Cozumel in Mexico is situated a mere twelve miles off the Yucatan coast in Mexico and offers outstanding diving opportunities. La Romana in Dominican Republic is the second biggest island in the Caribbean and is also home to the highest mountain in the Caribbean. This is a must-visit Caribbean cruise port.
Southern Caribbean
Port of Spain in Trinidad, Scarborough in Tobago, Bridgetown Barbados, St. George’s in Grenada, Oranjestad in Aruba, Willemstad Curacao, Kralendijk in Bonaire, Castries in St. Lucia, Fort-de-France in Martinique and Roseau in Dominica are the other important Caribbean cruise ports.
